Gavin W. Freitag

Gavin first worked at Petrone & Partners as a student in 1986. After being called to the Bar of Ontario in 1993, he practiced with another law firm for a period of time and returned in 2007. Over the course of his practice, he has increasingly evolved to specialize in the area of civil litigation particularly related to claims for personal injury losses. He has since developed a sub-specialty in traumatic brain injury and acquired brain injury litigation.

Gavin has developed his practice into a multidisciplinary team approach in complex poly-trauma, orthopaedic injuries, and traumatic brain injury and neurofunctional loss claims. He works closely with local and provincial counterparts and has achieved awards on behalf of his clients from several hundred thousand to $6.7 million. He has conducted litigation in most Canadian provinces and in several US states including California, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and North Dakota.

Gavin has been involved in a number of class action cases emanating from personal injuries including the Veley v. CGU class action suit and the Fire Fighters' Hearing Loss litigation as co-lead counsel with Douglas Elliott of the firm of Roy Elliott O'Connor. He has also instructed in Civil Litigation at the Bar Admission Course, Law Society of Upper Canada, Thunder Bay, and has been a guest lecturer in Contract Law in the Business Administration Program at Lakehead University.

Gavin was raised in Thunder Bay. He, his wife Caroline, and their two boys enjoy many recreational activities in and around the City of Thunder Bay.
